ASA History Timeline

ASA is operated by a 21 member Board of Directors and is staffed with 12 full time employees and 50 support staff employees.

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) was awarded ASA's Professional Services Contract and begins work on July 1, 2023.

ASA-X (ASA's tenth Supercomputer) replaces the DMC.

• ASA-X is bought and installed in 2023 and users gain access at the end of 2023. 
• ASA-X  is made up of 4,688 x86-64 Processors (AMD & Intel), Shared/Distributed Memory Architecture, InfiniBand high speed/low latency network, 512GB-6TB memory per node, 32TB total memory, and 1.4PB shared storage via Panasas.

As of January 2023, the Alabama Research and Education Network (AREN) connects 187 libraries, 757 K-12 sites, 15 universities, 83 community colleges, and several government agencies.
