Take 20 Survey

Alabama public school educators were recently asked to participate in the “Take 20 Alabama Teaching and Learning Survey”. The purpose of the survey was to collect information on the teaching and learning conditions in schools.

The Alabama Supercomputer Authority worked with Dr. Tony Thacker to provide help desk support for the survey. Dr. Thacker works with the Governor's Commission on Quality Teaching in the Alabama Department of Education.

Initially, the Take 20 Help Desk hours were scheduled for 8-5, M-F. But, since Alabama Supercomputer operates a 24-7 help desk, it was decided to respond to Take 20 inquiries 24-7. Many teachers and principals took advantage of the extended hours. Password (survey code) inquiries accounted for 97% of the questions received by the Take 20 Help Desk.

The survey was available from January 22, 2008 to February 24, 2008. During the survey period, the Alabama Supercomputer Authority Help Desk responded to a total of 1,305 calls and emails for the survey.

Number of Questions (by week)
  Number Received % of Total
Week 1 (1/22 – 1/27) 127 10%
Week 2 (1/28 – 2/3) 111 9%
Week 3 (2/4 – 2/10) 106 8%
Week 4 (2/11 – 2/17) 465 36%

The “Take 20 Alabama Teaching and Learning Survey” results will be used to help improve the teaching and learning conditions in Alabama public schools. The Alabama Supercomputer Authority is pleased to have had the opportunity to work with the Alabama Department of Education on this initiative.
