Applying for Computer Time

The Alabama Supercomputer Authority has designated two categories of accounts:

Academic Block

Available computing resources are allocated to the universities, colleges, and K-12 schools in accordance with policies set by the Board of Directors of the Alabama Supercomputer Authority. The allocation for each educational institution is available each year from the CEO of the Alabama Supercomputer Authority.

Commercial Block

Available computing resources are allocated for commercial and non-Alabama academic users by the Alabama Supercomputer Authority.

Commercial accounts include commercial and non-Alabama academic activities. All commercial accounts are coordinated through the Huntsville ASC office.

For pricing information on the DMC or the SGI Altix 350, please contact Dr. Young at hpc@asc.edu or 256-971-7434. Some software packages, such as NASTRAN and ANSYS, have a usage royalty charge which may apply to some accounts.

Each user must have a separate account on the DMC. To request an account, the user should submit an AREN Account Activity Request Form to the computational specialist. The completed form is given to the computational specialist, who forwards it to the ASC account administrator for processing. Once the account is established, the user is notified by the specialist or the account authority.
